The Hamburg/RASS Catalogue of optical identifications Northern high-galactic latitude ROSAT Bright Source Catalogue X-ray sources

چکیده
We present the Hamburg/RASS Catalogue (HRC) of optical identifications of X-ray sources at highgalactic latitude. The HRC includes all X-ray sources from the ROSAT Bright Source Catalogue (RASS-BSC) with galactic latitude |b| ≥ 30◦ and declination δ ≥ 0◦. In this part of the sky covering∼10 000 deg the RASS-BSC contains 5341 X-ray sources. For the optical identification we used blue Schmidt prism and direct plates taken for the northern hemisphere Hamburg Quasar Survey (HQS) which are now available in digitized form. The limiting magnitudes are 18.5 and 20, respectively. For 82% of the selected RASS-BSC an identification could be given. For the rest either no counterpart was visible in the error circle or a plausible identification was not possible. With ∼42% AGN represent the largest group of X-ray emitters, ∼31% have a stellar counterpart, whereas galaxies and cluster of galaxies comprise only ∼4% and ∼5%, respectively. In ∼3% of the RASS-BSC sources no object was visible on our blue direct plates within 40′′ around the X-ray source position. The catalogue is used as a source for the selection of (nearly) complete samples of the various classes of X-ray emitters.

The Hamburg / RASS optical identification project
We use digitized Schmidt direct and prism plates taken for the northern hemisphere Hamburg Quasar Survey (HQS) to obtain optical identifications for all high galactic latitude X-ray sources in the ROSAT Bright Source Catalogue (RASS-BSC) at |b| ≥ 30 • and δ ≥ 0 •. In this part of the sky the RASS-BSC contains about 5300 X-ray sources. Presently, identifications exist for ∼ 4100 RASS-BSC sources...
متن کاملIdentification of soft high galactic latitude RASS X-ray sources I. A complete count-rate limited sample
We present a summary of spectroscopic identifications for a complete sample of bright soft high galactic latitude X-ray sources drawn from the ROSAT All-Sky Survey which have PSPC count-rates CR > 0.5 cts s−1 and hardness ratios HR1 < 0. Of a total of 397 sources, 270 had catalogued counterparts although most of these were not previously known as X-ray sources; of the remaining 127 sources neit...
متن کاملThe isolated neutron star candidate RBS 1223 ( 1 RXS
In the ROSAT Bright Survey (RBS) we have almost completely optically identified the brightest ∼2000 high-galactic latitude sources from the ROSAT All-Sky Survey Bright Source Catalogue (1RXS). A small number of sources has empty X-ray error circles on optical images. ROSAT HRI follow-up observations of RBS1223 (=1RXS J130848.6+212708), a soft object with extreme X-ray to optical flux ratio, hav...
متن کاملUsing the ROSAT Catalogues to find counterparts for the second IBIS/ISGRI Survey Sources
The second IBIS/ISGRI survey has produced a catalogue containing 209 hard X-ray sources visible down to a flux limit of around 1 milliCrab. The point source location accuracy of typically 1-3 arcminutes has allowed the counterparts for most of these sources to be found at other wavelengths. In order to help identify the remaining objects, we have used the cross-correlation recently found betwee...
متن کاملIdentification of soft high galactic latitude RASS X-ray sources
We present a summary of spectroscopic identifications of bright soft high galactic latitude X-ray sources from the ROSAT All-Sky Survey with total PSPC count rates 0.11 < CR < 0.5 cts s−1 and hardness ratios HR1 < 0. This study supplements the identification program of a complete sample of sources withCR ≥ 0.5 cts s−1 presented previously. Spectroscopic identifications are presented for 70 of 7...
